The Bookbook hides your laptop on your bookshelf

The BookBook is a hardcover leather case for MacBooks and MacBook Pros, though I’d bet that it fits other laptops/netbooks as well, assuming they’re of the 13 or 15-inch variety.

It’s available in two colors, either classic black or vibrant red. Both colors are finished in a hardback leather case. What I really like is that the laptop will almost disappear in a bunch of books.

You can buy the bookbook from TwelveSouth for $79.99 (USD).

WTF!?!? you say? $80, plus shipping for a computer cover?

If you're cheap like me, and have access to real books, go get yourself a real oversized chunk of dead tree. Make sure the pages are at least 1 inch wider and 1 inch taller than what you're trying to hide, and make sure it's deep enough to hold the item as well. Giant bibles are probably your best bet, but sometimes a good World War 2 history will slide into your existing dieselpunk library a little stealthier.

Now's the fun part. Open the book cover, take a paint brush/sponge and rub white glue (Elmer's or something like it) on the outer page edges. What you're trying to do is seal all of the pages together, but you want to leave a cover free so you can still open it. What you'll be left with is a solid brick of paper and a cover flap.

Once you have your brick of paper, trace the shape of your computer/gun/whatever on the first page of the book. This is your template. Using an exacto knife or box cutter, start carving into the pages based on your template. Dig just deep enough to contain your item, but don't dig all the way to the other cover.

When you're done, coat the newly cut interior with more glue to harden the edges, let it dry overnight, and slip your to-be-hidden item into the book. Slide it back onto the shelf and you're all set.

Book: $10
Glue: $.99
Knife: $4
Savings: $65
Feeling that you've made something by yourself: Priceless

Haha, I like the DIY proposal. Very punk indeed (*nudge, nudge, wink, wink, say no more!)
