Cap'n's Cabaret #44: Lend, Lease, & Lindy!

To Russia with Loot!

Just another afternoon in Russia! [image courtesy of englishrussia.com]

War is Hell, and Hell is apparently cold.  Once again the Cabaret is in the Soviet Union, and this time we're bearing gifts!  Several tons of steel worth of gifts, all part of the Lend-Lease.  Shermans and Spitfires and Airacobras, oh my!  And just in time, for while Marshal Winter has done much to blunt the Nazi advance more will be needed.

Sure, our last visit to Moscow was...less than the best, but we're all friends here now, right?  Well, Uncle Joe has his own way with music, and here we present the patriotic people's best and most rousing wartime rag:

Umm...yea...

Well, that was a wild and swinging time (what the hell happened to Leonid Utyosov?), but here, let us show you what the decadent capitalist west can put out, with special guests Dorothy Dandridge & the Nicholas Brothers, taking us for a ride on the Chattanooga Choo Choo with Captain Glenn Miller & Band (let's show 'em how to do it right!):

Yes, yes!

And to bring it all home, how about a cocktail befitting of the situation, the Napoleon!  The Russian fighting boys (and girls!) are all about downing a few "Napoleons", be they in blue coats or gray, so bartender, mix us all up a few!

Napoleon Cocktail:

  • 2 oz Gin
  • 1/2 oz Grand Mariner
  • 1/2 oz Dubonnet Rouge

Shake well over ice & strain into a cocktail glass.

Vashe zdorovje!

What can I say, I love irony...but you make a good point that Sacred War is more historically and politically in keeping, so I'll include a copy of it here, complete with some war footage; thanks for the tip:

I hate to interfere, Cap'n, but you picked a wrong patriotic song. With the outbreak of war, all this "be prepared" stuff instantly became irrelevant. Here it can be replaced by "Sacred War", composed in the first days of German invasion.
