Killer Serials - Bela Lugosi in Whispering Shadow (1933)

Welcome to Killer Serials on Dieselpunks.

Killer Serials is our chance to spotlight the pre-television days of cliffhanger entertainment.  Whether it's secret agents, pulp heroes, or master magicians, you can guarantee there will be action, suspense, and plenty of cheesy props.

This week, we have the scene chewing star of Dracula, Bela Lugosi in Whispering Shadow, a 12 Chapter Serial made in 1933 by Nat Levine for Mascot Pictures Corporation. It's a take on the popular pulp hero "The Shadow," but this time the "Whispering Shadow" is an underworld mastermind.  He has invented a device that makes him invisible but leaves his shadow visible (which does, indeed, whisper).

There's not much more I can say about this one other than it has Bela Lugosi, is well made (for a serial), and is a load of fun.
