Dieselpunk + Steampunk Culture
Hedy Lamarr was an Austrian-American actress. Though known primarily for her extraordinary beauty and her celebrity in a film career as a major contract star...
Hedy was a wonderful combination of brains and beauty. A true dieselpunk heroine.
My God! What an artist and beautiful woman she was! I listed her oas one of my preferred and secretly fell in love with her!!! In fact I'm surprised to know that seh was also a scientist and inventor.
Thanks for the opportunity.
Very interesting story, Neil. Thanks for sharing this.
Others here are more knowledgeable about such tech but my understanding is that her invention was important in the development of radio controlled devices.
Miss Lamarr lived out her last years right here within 8 miles of my house, in Casselberry, Fl, an outlier town to Orlando. Sadly, this fact became evident to us all when she was arrested for shoplifting at a local drugstore, though I believe nothing ever came of it. She was living independently in her own home to the very end, and had a married couple helping with things, in the old tradition, gardener and driver, and housekeeper and companion. This assures us that, unlike so many of old Hollywood's 'royalty', she did not end up in the Old Actor's Home, or some other equally soul-killing arrangement.
Wasn't that invention of hers instrumental in, or a precursor to, the cellular phone age, some sort of switching device? It was used in WW II for something completely different, radio, I imagine.
And I am proud to say that I have a DVD copy of Ecstasy, from which I believe that one topless picture in your photo montage came.
